If you’re planning to study, work or migrate overseas, taking an English test is often one of the biggest steps on your journey. Now, that step could also come with extra financial support.
IDP Education has officially launched the 2026 IELTS Future Award, giving up to six IELTS test takers the chance to receive USD $5,000 each to help them pursue their international goals.
What is the IELTS Future Award?
The IELTS Future Award recognises people who use IELTS to pursue opportunities overseas and have a clear vision for how those opportunities could positively impact both their own lives and their communities.
Whether you’re planning to study at university, build an international career or migrate to another country, the award is designed to support ambitious people taking the next step.
According to IDP Education Chief Operating Officer Harmeet Pental, every IELTS test booking represents more than just an exam.
“The IELTS Future Award is about recognising ambition, resilience and potential. We’re looking for people who have a clear vision for their future and who can demonstrate how that opportunity could positively impact not only their own lives, but also the communities around them.”
Who can apply?
The 2026 program will award up to six recipients with USD $5,000 each.
As part of the application, you’ll need to:
- Share your future ambitions
- Explain what success in IELTS means to you
- Submit a one-minute video about your journey and future goals
Applications will be assessed on your aspirations, personal story and potential to make a positive difference.
A life-changing opportunity
One of last year’s recipients, Nigerian medical doctor Dr Chinenye Okafor, said receiving the award gave her much more than financial support.
“It was a vote of confidence in my potential. The benefits extended beyond a single examination or certificate – it strengthened my confidence to pursue opportunities and reinforced my belief that investing in education has a ripple effect.”
Dr Okafor is using the award to help pursue a medical residency overseas, with the goal of specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology before returning home to improve maternal healthcare outcomes in Nigeria.
