As is traditional, maintenance and improvement work on Paris public transport over the summer means closures on the Metro, tram and RER networks.
It’s August and Paris is – for Paris – pretty empty. Passenger numbers on public transport fall in the summer as city dwellers head to the beach, allowing transport operators to take the chance to carry out repair, maintenance and extension works.
Which means – as many thousands of visitors to the capital discover every year – there is significant disruption on Metro, tram and RER lines throughout the month.
The scale of the summer maintenance this year is such that the Ile de France regional authority has warned of longer journey times and higher passenger volumes on affected services, and urged commuters to "favour remote working if possible".
Metro lines 4, 5, 8, 12, and 13, RER lines A, B, C, D, and E, and Transilien lines H, K, and P have been undergoing significant work. Tram lines T1 and T2 will also be under construction until the end of August.
These works will result in station closures, reduced service frequency, and service interruptions on some lines.
Here’s where the works’ are going on:
RER A: No trains running between Vincennes and Noisy-le-Grand Mont d’Est until August 30th, and RER services will not stop at the Nation station until the same date.
RER B: No trains will run between Bourg-la-Reine and Gare du Nord; between La Croix de Berny / Robinson and Gare du Nord; while a reduced service is operating between Charles de Gaulle Airport 2 / Mitry-Claye and Gare du Nord until August 17th.
No trains will run between Gare du Nord and Denfert-Rochereau on August 29th and 30th.
RER C: No trains are running between Paris Austerlitz and Saint-Quentin en Yvelines / Versailles-Château Rive Gauche; or between Paris Austerlitz and Pontoise until August 22nd.
RER D: No trains run between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon; while trains running between Creil and Gare du Nord will not stop at Stade de France - Saint-Denis station. Other trains originate and terminate at Stade de France - Saint-Denis until August 16th.
RER E: A reduced service is operating between Tournan, Villiers-sur-Marne and Nanterre-la-Folie until August 7th. Meanwhile, the service is interrupted on line P between Tournan and Coulommiers until August 23rd
Metro Line 5: Heavy passenger use is expected on the line due to the closures of the RER B and D lines in central Paris until August 16th.
Metro Line 8: No trains between Balard and Concorde from August 20th to 27th. Trains will not stop at Republique until April 2027.
Metro Line 13: No metro trains run between Saint-Denis - Université and La Fourche until August 17th; Trains will not stop at Porte de Vanves from August 6th to August 9th; the entire line will be closed on the mornings of Sunday August 16th, and Sunday, August 30th.
Tram T1: No trams run between Asnières - Quatre Routes and La Courneuve May 8, 1945 until August 28th; or between Bobigny – Pablo Picasso and Gare de Noisy-le-Sec until August 31st.
Tram T2: No service between Puteaux and Charlebourg until August 23rd.
Tram T3: No service between Noisy-le-Roi and Saint-Cyr until August 7th, and again from August 10th to August 14th; Interruptions on the line between Saint-Cyr and Saint-Germain-en-Laye after 10pm from August 3rd to 16th, while the line will be closed on August 8th to 9th and from August 15th to 16th. Traffic is interrupted between Les Portes de Saint-Cyr and Saint-Cyr after 10pm from August 17th to 21st. Replacement bus services are available.
Transilien Ligne H: Until August 16th, two trains operating hourly between Gare du Nord and Persan-Beaumont (via Valmondois); and Gare du Nord and Saint-Leu-la-Forêt; one train per hour between Gare du Nord and Persan-Beaumont (via Montsoult - Maffliers), and two trains per hour from Gare du Nord to Sarcelles-Saint-Brice.
Transilien Ligne K: No trains running between Gare du Nord and Mitry-Claye in either direction until August 16th.
Transilien Ligne P: No trains are running between La Ferté-Milon and Meaux in either direction until August 9th, or between Coulommiers and Tournan in either direction until August 23rd.
