Sales – France’s extended summer sales period ends across most of the country, except for Corsica, where it started later and runs to August 4th.

Heatwave – Forecasters have warned that France is set to endure a fourth heatwave, starting from July 29th and lasting into early August.
Friday
Travel trouble – Roads watchdog Bison Futé has flagged every weekend of August as having ‘very difficult’ or ‘extremely difficult’ conditions on the country’s roads as holidaymakers head out – and home.
The dreaded ‘crossover’ weekend – when the July holidaymakers return and the August ones set out, usually the busiest weekend of the year – starts on July 31st and runs to August 2nd.
Saturday
Women’s Tour de France – The nine-stage Women’s Tour de France starts in Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 1st.
Savings – The interest rate on Livret A savings accounts will go up from 1.5 percent to 1.7 percent on August 1st.
Gas prices – As of August 1st, the price of gas will fall slightly. The CRE’s benchmark price, the public reference used by suppliers, is falling by 1.87 percent for heating, and 1.48 percent for cooking and hot water use.
Overseas students – The minimum income requirement for foreign students seeking admission to French universities will increase to €877.50 per month, from its current €615, from August 1st.
