Monday
Strike – Three unions representing French cabin crew for budget airline easyJet have filed a strike notice that runs until Wednesday, September 2nd, in a dispute over working conditions. Walkouts may occur with just 48 hours’ notice until then.

Esports – The 2026 Esports World Cup gets under way in Paris. The event runs until August 23rd.
Tuesday
Cold calling – Unsolicited sales calls will become illegal in France from August 11th as a law passed back in June 2025 comes into full effect.

Heatwave – The fourth heatwave of the summer hasn’t officially ended yet, but higher temperatures are expected to settle over a large part of France from Tuesday, with temperatures expected to reach 40C in the south of the country, and 35C in the north.
Wednesday
Eclipse – France will witness its first solar eclipse in 27 years on Wednesday, August 12th. Soon after, the moon will dip below the horizon, offering – clear skies willing – heavens-watchers a chance to see the Perseids meteor shower, which peaks overnight

Friday
Travel trouble – Roads watchdog Bison Futé has flagged every weekend of August as having ‘very difficult’ or ‘extremely difficult’ conditions on the country’s roads as holidaymakers head out – and home. This weekend is no exception.
Saturday
Public holiday – The Christian festival of Assumption is – officially – a public holiday in France. This year it falls on a Saturday, which means no extra day off for those not on vacation at the time.
Anniversary – On August 15th, 1944, Allied troops landed on the coast of Provence as part of Operation Dragoon, marking the start of the liberation of southern France. Towns and villages along the coast of the region will mark the day with events.
